This is a very unique and cool miniature five stringer which began its life as an British made Banjo Ukulele, probably in the 1920's. It has been professionally and seamlessly converted to a mini five string banjo, while retaining almost all of its originality. The "gumby" peghead is unique amongst banjos, as is the two piece walnut rim. The original tailpiece still is very polished. The neck is mahogany and the head is a fresh calfskin. The tuners are the friction type as used on many older banjos, and the buttons have been antiqued. The nut and pip are both bone. The metal "pie plate" style resonator is in excellent condition with the makers logo. The neck is wide enough to permit a modern standard spaced bridge, which facilitates playing greatly. The action is relatively low as it is set up currently, and very easy to play with the Nylgut strings. Yes, only six hooks and nuts! One of a kind and can be yours for $850 + shipping.
