Baycu Stewart "Acme Professional" Piccolo Fretless Banjo #2616.......$2150 w/HSCThe Acme Professional was an original S.S. Stewart product but built after his death in 1896. These early rims are identical to pre-1900 rims in construction, with double spun nickel silver rims with a faux rosewood inner rim finish. These rims were used for piccolo banjos and banjo mandolins into the 1920's.
This banjo has all the original hardware in very nice conditon but I have carved the moose bone rosette on the tailpiece.
The neck is Vermont cherry and the fingerboard, heel cap and peghead overlay are heavy gabon ebony, inlayed with pearl position markers. The peghead is a Stewart design. The pip and nut are of polished bone.
There is nothing quite like a polished ebony fingerboard devoid of little wires to facilitate playing. If you have never played a fretless instrument, you might be in for a surprise!
This banjo measures 7" for rim diameter with a 10" neck(nut to rim), and a 14.5" scale length. The string are all red label Nylgut, and the custom bridge is curly maple.
This banjo has a PLASTIC head which was a three month special order so it is quite rare amongst piccolo banjos. This head makes this little banjo much more responsive and powerful.
